Derek, Cetrek was a marine electronics manufacturer long out of business. British make? As Robyn is 25 years old and no Cetrek manuals this suggests a used system might have been installed. I browsed for Cetrek 930 Autopilot and found a couple of sites-one a cruiser forum with similar Cetrek requests/comments and the other a possible manual supplier.
Some Cetrek stuff is also listed for sale on EBay. Caveat Emptor!
None of my old marine electronics catalogs from mainly USA firms list any Cetrek items. Is the autopilot system working or not? Often, the electro-mechanical fluxgate compass is the culprit if you have a random number generator with occasional correct course display. If the GPS chart navigation system is not working, there might simply be an internal replaceable memory battery needed. After a number of good working years, that cheaply fixed my Standard-Horizon GPS color chart plotter using C-Map cartridges.

When the plotter works, there is typically a Menu button that allows you to configure the multiple displays and a manual might not be absolutely needed. Much of configuring a chart plotter is whether you want course up or North up? (to correspond with a printed chart), scale selection, the amount and kind of display info wanted and where you wish your GPS units, course, range/bearing, speed made good, clock time, elapsed time, ETA, UTC or local time displays arranged, etc. If the unit operates but is erratic, sometimes pressing the Default settings from the menu fixes things, but then you have to reconfigure your personal tastes and this takes a lot of button-pushing and some trial and error.
My first-installed low-cost simple Furuno GP30 Navigator was a track plotter, not a chart plotter, had no internal memory battery but held 30 courses in memory as I recall and was fault-free with multiple display features, but not coupled to an autopilot, nor was the Standard-Horizon. I tended to pick and choose electronics from various manufacturers as new features appeared, and upgraded to GPS from my LORAN, for example. All is working well Doug but I think I would be able to get the full potential from this unit if I didn't spend so much time lost in one of the menus or another! The auto pilot works well and that is the most important function of the chartplotter for me. I have installed with my own Lowrance 525 which has all my waypoints and a great display ( it seems that the newer units have much more simplistic charts ). The radar works, the digital compas seems to be swung about right and as well as the sounder seems quite good so I am quite happy with the setup. However I still like to have manuals to look.
There is always lots of hidden features that trial and error will never find. 25-Oct-13 01:45:01 AM UTC. Very good, Derek, Apparently your Cetrek GPS interface provides input to the autopilot and you would not have the electro-mechanical fluxgate compass for bearing infomation/setting, etc to your autopilot. When I commissioned Seeker in 1988 my marine electronics source locally advised that coupled autopilots didn't work very well, as LORAN still predominated and most nautical GPS's were handheld variety. Hence, I installed separate units with stand-alone autopilot, a Robertson unit that won the 1988 NMEA award for best autopilot. The Robertson was from Norway with dual language manual, but now the name changed to Simrad Robertson for some and just Simrad for others.
It is still working for the new owner, with my supplying a new fluxgate compass for it prior to the boat's sale. For American boat owners in USA waters, be advised our government has just announced NO MORE PRINTED NAUTICAL CHARTS will be issued, ever! Some 800 in all.
Cetrek Pilot 730
Reason stated-GPS chart plotters are the present standard for nautical navigation. One has to wonder about chart updates, as our NOAA is the source of the paper charts and their updates and the Local Notice to Mariners from our USCG for chart changes is no longer mailed. Chartkits for various areas will probably still be printed, but from what database? Doug Robertson ex SD32/162 SEEKER.
Manuals and Documents: Over the years we have had quite a number of equipment and gear installed, some good, some better, some worse. We reference only equipment which is no longer available. We still have the full documentation including installation and operation manuals or where we provide own information free-of-charge for download. For details please use the contact document.
